FUNDRAISING EVENTS
December 2022
Our now regular ceilidh was held on the 30th December 2022 and was enjoyed by our Scottish country dance group and many friends. We were well entertained by the ceilidh band "the Five String Thing" who thrilled us with reels, strathspeys, jigs and songs. We raised well over £300 from the evening which goes towards the rebuilding fund.
Spring 2023
Mathew Morris, the eminent archaeologist from Leicester University kindly agreed to present two highly entertaining talks on the archaeology of Leicester and surrounding countryside in Spring 2023, which raised over £1000 for our rebuilding fund. We are indebted to Mathew for this, not only for supporting our fund raising effort, but for bringing his expertise and insight to the village and sharing it with a very fortunate and appreciative audience. We hope he will return sometime and shed light on his latest discoveries at Leicester Cathedral, including the incredibly rare Roman alter stone.
March 2023
Our local antiquarian and self confessed hoarder, Peter Jones, held a superb fine art exhibition and sale at the village hall which was well attended by the village and surrounding area. Peter was very pleased with the response and has donated a proportion of his profits to the village hall rebuilding fund.
11th March 2023
A successful table top sale was held in the village hall where several villagers and visitors rented tables and sold their surplus belongings. We also had a cake stall which featured many delicious goodies donated by several ladies in the village. A total of £205 was raised for the village hall, and we sincerely thank all those who contributed to the success of the day, either as sellers or buyers.
28th April 2023
Next fundraising event is our Musical evening featuring the Happy Tuesdays, Dick Clarke and Chris Dunn, the Five String Thing ceilidh band and several other talented local musicians. Don't miss it!
Update - the Musical evening was a great success, the event was sold out and we raised just over £1000 for hall funds. Many thanks to all the generous musicians who played and the appreciative audience who came along.
September 30th 2023 - The next fundraising event will be a ceilidh/barn dance in the village hall with live band The Five String Thing. Tickets will be limited due to space so contact barrowdenvillagehall@gmail.com to secure yours early! There are unlikely to be any available on the door.
